Many people choose organic apparel and foods to cut down on the chemicals they expose themselves and the environment to and some women are also choosing to use organic cotton tampons for the same reasons.
Leading household and personal products manufacturer Seventh Generation offers a line of chlorine-free, organic cotton tampons that are designed to offer women the reliable, comfortable protection they need, while reducing the amount of chlorinated toxins and agricultural pesticides released into the environment.
The company has launched a campaign called "Let's Talk
Period" to support the month of September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
For every consumer who visits LetsTalkPeriod.com and registers their email address during September 2010, Seventh Generation will donate $1, up to $10,000, in their name to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to support programs for those battling the disease.
The website points out that conventional tampons are commonly made from a blend of cotton and rayon. Rayon is typically treated with chlorine dioxide, which can result in dangerous chlorinated toxins being released into the environment. And conventional cotton is grown using pesticides.
The company's organic cotton tampons and other feminine products are whitened without chemicals containing chlorine.
